Tips for Identifying Water Heater Issues

I’ve been troubleshooting various water heater problems lately, and I’ve noticed that many issues stem from sediment buildup. If you’re dealing with inconsistent water temperatures, it might be worth checking if it’s time to flush the tank. Has anyone else found effective ways to prevent sediment accumulation?

I completely agree on flushing the tank — it really helps. I’ve also started using a water softener, which seems to cut down on sediment a lot. Have you tried that before?

Flushing really does help! I also found adding a magnesium anode can reduce sediment buildup. Have you looked into that, @zack_r74?

Sediment buildup can definitely mess with water temperatures, so I’d suggest checking the heater’s temperature settings too. Sometimes they’re set too high, which can exacerbate the issue. Have you noticed any unusual noises coming from the tank, @sarah62?

Since sediment buildup can really impact water temperatures, I’m a fan of inspecting the dip tube if you haven’t already. If it’s cracked or damaged, that can let sediment pile up quickly. Have you had a chance to check that part out?
