What You’ll Do

On the “mission-critical” data center work, I’ve had the best luck spec’ing continuous leak detection with auto shutoff on any domestic or CW piping above white space; it’s a small premium that saved us from a six-figure outage. @MeadeEngineering, some owners push back on cost, but if you show the downtime math during DD they usually buy.

Quick example: in Austin data halls, floor drains near CRAH rows will evaporate dry in about a week during commissioning, so I spec waterless trap seal devices plus an electronic primer manifold tied to the BAS for “mission-critical” white space and put the primer circuit on UPS. If the AHJ balks at inserts, swap to listed electronic primers only and document it early. @MeadeEngineering, it’s a few hundred per drain but it saves stink calls and nuisance alarms later.

On an Austin build, we split the domestic cold PRV station into parallel low‑flow/high‑flow legs with full‑size bypasses and added pressure transmitters to BAS; it killed the off‑hours ‘creep’ that used to nudge fixtures and set off alarms. If supply pressure is rock steady, a single station can work, but I’d still add test ports and a relief to a safe drain. @MeadeEngineering it’s cheap insurance on large commercial and data builds.
